Dr. Jack Groppel, sport scientist, fitness and nutrition consultant, author, lecturer and coach, is Co-Founder of the Human Performance Institute in Orlando, Florida. Touted by Scholastic Coach as “Biomechanist Extraordinaire”, by Tennis Week as “one of the country’s most renowned figures in sports medicine” and as “The Game’s Biomechanist”, Dr. Groppel is world-renowned for his application of the sport sciences to human performance, both in the athletic and business worlds. A motivating, yet highly entertaining speaker, he has spoken at over 1,000 functions on six continents for athletes, fitness experts, corporate executives, scientists, physicians, coaches, and sport enthusiasts.


Dr. Groppel was formerly an associate professor of kinesiology and of bioengineering at the University of Illinois. His research has included performance analyses of over 12 sports, having successfully worked with numerous world-class athletes such as the Chicago White Sox, the New Jersey Devils, Olympic gymnast Wendy Bruce, and tennis professionals Stan Smith, John McEnroe, and Michael Chang.


Dr. Groppel was elected as a Vice President on the Board of Directors of the United States Professional Tennis Association. As a professional tennis coach, Dr. Groppel is a certified Master Professional of the U.S. Professional Tennis Association, the highest rating of the organization. He was awarded the USPTA’s highest honor in 1987 as their National Teaching Professional of the year. Dr. Groppel also served for 14 years as the Chairperson of the National Sport Science Committee for the United States Tennis Association (USTA). For his contributions, he received the 1993 International Tennis Hall of Fame’s Educational Merit Award and has been inducted into the Midwest USPTA Hall of Fame.


Dr. Groppel is a recognized authority in sport research. He is a Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine, a Board Certified Nutritionist at the American College of Nutrition, and has served as a research associate to the United States Olympic Training Center. He gave the keynote address at the 1984 Olympic Scientific Congress. His scientific findings have appeared in numerous journals such as Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, American Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness, International Journal of Sport Biomechanics, Journal of Sport Science, and Sports Medicine. Dr. Groppel was an instruction editor to Tennis Magazine from 1989 – 2001. He has written and edited ten books including the acclaimed Corporate Athlete book.
